Debenhams in Redditch could still re-open once lockdown ends

Redditch Editorial 14th Jan, 2021   0

DEBENHAMS in Redditch could re-open once the current coronavirus lockdown is over.

The news comes after the beleaguered retailer announced its stores in Worcester, Weymouth, Staines, Portsmouth and Harrogate, plus its flagship store in Oxford Street shop in London would not re-open, with the loss of more than 300 jobs.

Geoff Rowley, a joint administrator to Debenhams at FRP Advisory, said: “We continue to engage with interested parties over alternative proposals for the future of Debenhams, but inevitably the latest lockdown has had an effect on our plans for the wind-down of the business.”

The Redditch branch is widely regarded as the ‘anchor’ store for the Kingfisher Shopping Centre.

Debenhams plans to re-open as many stores as possible to complete the sale of its remaining stock.

Meanwhile the sale continues online.
