TIME is running out for campaigners battling against plans to put up 3,400 new homes at the back of Webheath up to Bentley and along the Bromsgrove Highway.
The proposals, which have already been rubber stamped by the planning inspector, go before Bromsgrove district council’s cabinet on January 11 and Redditch borough council’s executive committee on January 17.
David Rose, chairman of the Webheath Action Group has also hit out at what is proposed at the site in the light of the new ‘Garden Village’ earmarked for Long Marston just three miles from Stratford.
With 3,500 homes it would feature ‘wooded glades, parkland, and tree-lined avenues’ plus shops, cafes, community centre, two primary and one secondary school, a library and GP surgery.
In contrast, said Mr Rose, the site for Webheath/Bentley will have ‘retail floorspace’ a primary school, health and community facilities and a playing field.
He has urged both Redditch MP Karen Lumley and Sajid Javid, MP for Bromsgrove, to urgently pursue their ‘calling in’ of the plans with the Housing Minister in a bid to stop the development going ahead.
