Delight as better driving course gets off to a flying start in Feckenham

Correspondent 28th Nov, 2018

MORE than 30 people took steps to become better drivers in a free awareness course in Feckenham organised by the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner and Worcestershire County Council.

As part of ‘Roads Focus’ – a new joint road safety campaign from the Commissioner and County Council – the course was held last Thursday giving drivers the opportunity to brush up on their knowledge.

An instructor from the TTC Group, leading providers of police and court referred driving courses, quizzed participants on speeds, signs and hazard perception.

They also got an insight from a Roads Policing Inspector into accidental statistics, the affects poor driving can have on lives and how we should all be helping each other – particularly when it comes to discouraging drink-driving.

Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said: “The whole reason for launching this campaign was to find ways of improving road safety for people.

“That can come in the form of listening to concerns and identifying ways of rectifying the problems, or it can come in the form of education.

“Initially, when we advertised the course, we were unsure how many people would volunteer to attend.

“However, to have over 30 people who actively want to become better drivers, and make our roads safer, is fantastic.

“Understanding that not everyone that expressed interest in attending could make it, we are certainly looking to hold some more in the future in partnership with the TTC Group.”

Worcestershire County Councillor Alan Amos, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “Roads Focus is all about empowering our residents to take ownership of road safety. Therefore, it’s very encouraging to know that so many local residents volunteered their time to take in an awareness course.

“We hope that the session proved to be useful for those who attended, as we all look to play a part in making our roads safer for all.”
