Demolition starting on skate park in Studley

DEMOLITION work has started on the skate park at Crooks Lane Recreation Area in Studley following independent advice that the structure has reached the end of its safe operational life.

The Standard reported in March the area was unsafe after a routine annual inspection in October 2025.

On professional recommendation, a full structural survey was then commissioned.

The independent report, received in January 2026, identified extensive corrosion and confirmed the skate park was sadly beyond economical repair.

With public safety as the overriding priority, Studley Parish Council said it took the difficult but necessary decision to close the skate park with immediate effect from February 23.

The site has since been fenced off, with demolition starting this week.

There is set to be a consultation launching soon, in which people can give their thoughts and opinions on what should replace the park.

Acting Chair of Studley Parish Council, Coun Penny Hunt, said: “We know and understand how valued the skate park has been by young people and families in Studley and we do not underestimate the disappointment this closure will cause.

“However, the independent survey was clear that the structure had come to the end of its life.

“The only responsible option was therefore to close it.”

Studley Parish Council confirmed it would now begin developing proposals for new facilities at Crooks Lane, placing community engagement at the centre of the process to ensure future provision reflected the needs, priorities and aspirations of the community.

Coun Julie Palmer added: “The parish council is determined that what comes next reflects what young people and families in and around Studley want and need.

“We will be inviting local residents, schools and youth groups to help shape proposals so we can deliver a sustainable facility the whole community can be proud of.”
