VANDALS have smashed their way into Noah’s Ark Nursery in Matchborough Centre, causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage.
The destruction was discovered on Sunday at around 1pm and could have been caused anytime on Friday or Saturday night.
Shocked staff have been picking through the wreckage in the nursery garden and play area, trying to come to terms with why anyone would want to do something like this to a nursery which has been part of the community for more than 20 years.
Gill O’Gorman from the nursery said: “It’s just sheer wanton vandalism.
“This place is very much a community nursery – we have been part of the Matchborough community for many years.
“It’s hard to put a value a monetary value on what they done as the real cost is in what they have taken away from the children, but it must run to hundreds of pounds.
“They even smashed our gate – and it was open – so there was no need for them to do something like that.”
She added that, given the size of the footprints left in the garden, the vandals must have been young adults and not children.
“It’s especially hard because we are not a private nursery, we are a community nursery and we have a good relationship with the parents around here,” she said.
The work to put right the damage done would cost not just money but time too, said Gill.
“This raises the whole security issue and our biggest concern is what we can do to make sure this doesn’t happen again to us.”
