A COUPLE who celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary yesterday with a letter from the Queen say they are in love now more than ever.
Walkwood Road residents Terry and June Ley married on October 4 1958, in Catshill Church in Bromsgrove when they were 23 and 25 years-old.
Now in their 80s, the couple were thrilled to receive a letter from the Queen congratulating them on reaching their diamond landmark.
When asked asked about the secret to a long and happy marrriage, June said: “We have our ups and downs but it’s important to work through the hard times.
“We love each other’s company but we also like to concentrate on our own hobbies.
“He does his bit and I do my bit.”
June is a keen gardener and loves to grow plants in her greenhouse.
Terry enjoys spending time working on his cars and above all his 40-year-old Mini which has just 900 miles on the clock.
When it’s not in the garage he takes it to car shows across the country.
Thinking back to their honeymoon, June said: “It was a choice between Weston-super-Mare or London but thankfully we chose the capital.
“Both of us had a great time sight-seeing and walking around – it was a very expensive trip back in those days.”
Since then they have had two children, Sharon and Matthew, and three grandchildren who they love very much.
Sharon, who is taking her parents on a secret getaway this weekend, said: “As a family we are extremely proud of their achievement and for everything they do for us.
“They have been the most fantastic parents and grandparents and we can’t thank them enough.”
