LOVING couple Wyn and Brian Gough first met at a cycling club and have been pedalling along ever since, right up to celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary yesterday, Thursday (December 3).
Cupid’s arrow struck back in 1953 when the couple first met and the pair went on to marry at Immanuel Church, Highter’s Heath – where members of Beoley Cycling Club formed an arch of bicycle wheels for the newlyweds to pass under.
Following a honeymoon in Southsea, the couple went on to have two children and now live in Hunt End.
Both Wyn, aged 82, and Brian, who turns 81 next Sunday (December 13), are still keen cyclists with Brian riding at least three times a week although Wyn is currently recovering from a recent knee replacement operation.
“I think it helps that we have common interests such as the cycling,” Brian said when asked about the secret to a long and happy marriage.
“We also like to go sequence dancing three times a week but we do have our own interests too, Wyn is in the WI and she enjoys patch-working and quilting whilst the garden keeps me busy.”
The couple plan to celebrate their diamond anniversary with their children in Birmingham where the family will watch Guys and Dolls at the New Alexandra Theatre before going to dinner at a Chinese restaurant.
