A BIG celebration is planned this Saturday to mark the 60th wedding anniversary of Peter Alan Browning and his wife Betty Diana.

The Diamond couple, who have lived on Abbeydale for 55 years, were married at Bromsgrove Registry Office on March 22, 1958, and went on to have four children, 12 grandchildren and an amazing 33 great grandchildren.

And on March 24 they will all be assembling at Batchley and Bridley Moor Social Club to toast the loving couple.

Grand daughter Emma Skidmore said: We are delighted and proud and consider ourselves very lucky to to celebrate such a joyous occasion.

“They are very humorous, nurturing and loving – they are a strong couple and an inspiration to all, a great example of hard work and commitment resulting in a long and happy marriage.”

Emma said when they were growing up Peter and Betty were neighbours and became childhood sweethearts, however when they got married, due to work commitments, they never went on a honeymoon.

Nevetheless they have stayed a loving couple ever since.

The couple said the secret to a successful marriage is: “A good argument each day, but never go to bed on it,” said Peter, aged 83, a former long distance lorry driver.

While Betty, aged 80, said: “If he hadn’t worked away for so long he’d have been long gone!”
