A STONE Age ‘cult’ henge site at Bidford on Avon and evidence of Africans in medieval Britain are just two of the topics that the Archaeology Warwickshire team will be sharing with the local community this summer.

Heritage and Culture Warwickshire (HCW) are organising some special events this summer as part of the Festival of Archaeology 2017.

Headlining events is a series of talks on some of the latest findings by this nationally renowned team, many of which will be shared with the public for the first time.

On Thursday July 20 at 6.30pm a talk will be held about the team’s excavations at Bidford on Avon, which uncovered a 4,000 year old henge complex.

On Monday July 24 there will be a talk about St John’s Hospital, Lichfield, where archaeologists uncovered evidence of at least two black people of African descent in the

medieval cemetery.

On Thursday July 27 there will be a talk about Ridgeway Farm, Hillmorton, where excavations have revealed a complex landscape of Bronze Age pit-alignment boundaries, Iron

Age settlement and Roman enclosures.

All the above talks take place at 6.30pm in the Market Hall Museum, Warwick.

Tickets are £5 on 01926 738959 / 412500 or at www.warwickshire.gov.uk/heritageboxoffice.

In addition on Wednesday, July 19, at 1pm, Sara Wear, curator of Human History, will give a free lunchtime talk on the Ancient Craft of Metalworking at the Market Hall Museum.
