SPARE a thought for the wildlife in your garden this Christmas when it comes to shop-bought ‘reindeer food’.
The RSPCA is asking Redditch residents whose children have bought ‘food’ for Santa’s reindeer this Christmas – usually a mixture of plastic and foil glitter along with oats – to not sprinkle them on the lawn as the packets suggest.
A spokesperson said: “Many of our very hungry small garden birds and mammals could eat it, potentially causing long term damage to their digestive systems.
“Even ‘edible glitter’ which was made to be safe for humans, poses a serious threat to wild animals like birds.”
People are advised instead to leave in a small bowl indoors with a carrot and a mince pie for Santa.
