DOG owners are being urged to take extra care of their pets with the forecast predicted to be warm this weekend.

A warming has been issued by West Mercia Police about residents leaving their four-legged friends in a parked cars, even in the shade as it can be fatal. Officers suggest on longer journeys, people should ensure water is available for their dogs, as well as opening windows and keeping the air conditioning running.

It is recommended people contact police in an emergency, either by calling 999 or 101, if they believe a dog is overheating or distressed in a hot car. The RSPCA also offers advice and tips on its website.
