Doing their bit for Primrose Hospice

Redditch Editorial 28th Aug, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

THE PRIMROSE Big Appeal, which is aiming to raise £100,000 to pay for 80 days of care, is now up to almost £40,000.

That equates to 32 days of care, so the cash for another 48 days is now being sought by the charity.

Residents are being urged to organise fund-raising events for the cause, based on the theme ‘Around the World in 80 Days’.

The charity’s chief executive Helen Garfield said: “We have been delighted that local people have been supporting our BIG Appeal in so many different ways but we still need more help.

“Our services are hugely in demand and we are trying to raise enough money to pay for 80 days of care. “

The Primrose helps people with a variety of conditions including cancer, Motor Neurone Disease, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s.

“We all know someone in our community who has been affected by a life limiting illness and it is vital that as a charity we are able to support all the people who need our help.

“We all hope we never need the services of the local Hospice but if you do need us you want to know we will be here for you.,” added Helen

REDDITCH twins conquered a gruelling obstacle course to raise funds for the hospice which cared for their sister.

Alison Home and Louise Bird braved the Tough Mudder challenge in Cirencester last weekend (August 16 and 17) in memory of their sister Clare Tonge who passed away from breast cancer in May.

The pair took on the ten to 15 mile assault course which is used by the special forces in aid of the Primrose Hospice where the 48-year-old was cared for.

Along the route competitors can be electrocuted, have to swim though an ice bath, clamber over 12-foot walls and run up a quarter pipe covered with mud and grease.

A total of £250 has been raised so far with some donations still expected to come in.

A FAMILY funday and quiz to raise funds for the Primrose Hospice and the refurbishment of St Benedicts’ Social Club will be held at the club on Septermber 13.

In the daytime, between midday to 4.30pm, there will be a variety of activities, including food, drink, tombolas, raffle, Mickey and Minnie cakes, bric-a-brac, nail designs, glitter tattoos, a bouncy castle, face-painting, a pool competition and a variety of other stalls.

Then from 7pm, there will be a quiz – teams of up to eight people can enter and admission is £1 per person. There is also a cash prize for the winner.

Other entertainment on the evening will come from music and a local band.

Organisers Christine Bradley and Hayley O’Connor said chose the Primrose as it was a charity very close to their hearts and the St Benedicts’ refurbishment was also a good cause.
