Donation from local business brings Christmas cheer to some of Redditch's older residents

A GROUP of more than 40 senior guests from Redditch and Bromsgrove were treated to festive day out last weekend – thanks to the kindness of a local legal firm.

The pensioners from community group Redditch & Bromsgrove Contact the Elderly were taken to see Cinderella at the Artrix in Bromsgrove last Saturday thanks to money from mfg solicitors.

The £1,000 donation paid for theatre tickets, interval drinks, plus a little Christmas gift for each guest.

After the show some of the cast, along with the day’s second fairy godmother, Kirsten Bridgewater, a partner at mfg, handed out presents from Betty’s Tea Shop to the guests.

Gill Talbot, a volunteer with Contact the Elderly, said: “Without mfg’s generous donation and 12 volunteer drivers we could not have made this happen. Together we put smiles on lonely faces.

“Christmas cab ne a miserable time if you are lonely and feel forgotten – and for the widowed elderly this is especially true. So, what better Christmas cheer could there be than enjoying a pantomime in the company of many others?”

Contact the Elderly is a national charity offering monthly afternoon tea parties and events for elderly and isolated guests, giving them a change of scenery, conversation and laughter, helping to combat the loneliness many of them face on a daily basis.

Kirsten said: “We were delighted to help make Christmas that bit more special for everyone supported by the charity.”

The organisation is supported by a network of volunteers who run groups, host tea parties and drive the guests to the monthly meetings.
