REDDITCH tennis star Felix Gill is celebrating after back-to-back wins on the pro tour.
Felix took his second title in as many weeks on the Italian clay courts in Santa Margherita Di Pulia.
Felix defeated several players ranked over 150 places above him including the Spanish Number One seed Oriol Roca Batalla in the final, winning 6-2, 6-4.
He is now at a career high world ranking of 369.
Felix said: “I’m so happy with the results in the last month.
“Winning back-to-back titles is down to all the commitment and focus I have been putting into my training this year – it hasn’t been easy at times but the hard work is paying off.”
Tony Ravenscroft, head coach at Redditch Tennis Club, said: “It’s amazing to see Felix doing so well on the tour.
“He started tennis when he was four years old.
“Felix took part in an after school tennis session at Tardebigge First School when he was in reception class.
“He showed potential, even at four years old and that’s when he joined a training squad at Redditch Tennis Club.
“it’s been a tough 18 months for Felix but he has put in the hours on court and it’s showing in his performances.”
Redditch Tennis Club, where Felix learned to ply his trade, is currently in dispute over charges and cannot access its base at Redditch Borough Football Club.
It said this week it was now in discussions with the football club but needs Mettis Aerospace – the owners of the land – to join the talks. It added it had still not received a response from Mettis.
