Dreams come true for Redditch's George as he becomes a cover star

A DREAM has come true for Redditch teenager George – thanks to Muffin Break’s new partnership with Make-A-Wish® UK.

Make-A-Wish® UK grants magical wishes to enrich the lives of seriously ill children like 15 year-old George.

George was diagnosed at birth with CHARGE syndrome, a genetic condition that causes developmental delay, deafness, sight defects and autism, as well as other symptoms.

George’s parents, Helen and Keith, adopted him when he was 16 months old.

Helen said: “He wasn’t at all well, had lived all his life in hospital and we were asked to foster him… as time went on looking after George the whole family felt immense love for him, so much so we asked if we could adopt him, and were so happy when social services agreed.”

Helen describes George as a gentle child with a passion for the CBeebies magazine.

So there was no doubt in their minds what his wish would be – a trip to the factory where it is made and printed.

When the family arrived at the Wyndeham Group factory, George only started to have an inkling of the treat he was in for when he spotted a CBeebies magazine in the waiting room before being taken through to the printing press.

He watched an issue being created from beginning to end before getting that same issue handed to him – with his photo on the cover.

He was then presented with a box of CBeebies goodies and a framed copy of the magazine cover.

Helen and Keith asked if they could take home the balloons and bunting set up to welcome him, and the bunting now hangs in George’s bedroom and all 20 balloons decorated the conservatory where his magazine collection lives.

Gemma Sandells of Muffin Break said: “We are absolutely delighted to play a part in helping to grant wishes to desperately ill children like George. Hopefully, we’ll be able to help grant many more.”

George also received a £50 voucher to spend at his local Muffin Break in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre.
