MOTORISTS are being warned that Studley High Street will be closed for major road re-surfacing work over the half term school break from October 23-30.
The thoroughfare will be shut from Crooks Lane to the Barley Mow island and diversions will be put in place, however there will be limited access for residents and delivery vehicles.
Pedestrians will be able to reach shops and businesses as usual.
County councillor Clive Rickhards (Studley, Lib Dem) and district councillor Justin Kerridge (Con, Studley & Mappleborough Green) met with local business leaders to explain the situation and do what they can to ease the situation for traders.
“There will be partial access and some parking down Marble Alley for customers at that end of the High Street and we’ve tried to facilitate deliveries to shopkeepers,” said Coun Rickhards.
“The work had to be done at some point and they’ve chosen half term deliberately been to try and lessen the impact of the work.”
The aim is to entirely remove the existing road surface and replace it with new tarmac as well as dealing with some of the drains and ironwork in the road.
‘Gatemen’ will be on duty at either end of the High Street to advise motorists on how to avoid the disruption and alternative routes.
