In driving seat for success at public course in Redditch

PITCHEROAK Golf Course’s new 270-yard driving range was officially opened on Wednesday (September 7).

Like the course itself, the range at Pitcheroak is a public facility open to anyone that wants to turn up and play, with no membership being necessary.

Redditch Borough Council’s portfolio holder for leisure services, Coun Pat Witherspoon, was on hand to check out the new facility.

“It is very attractive and right next to the town centre so easy to get to.

“We need to make sure that leisure facilities are available for all people, all ages and all genders,” she said.

The golf course will be holding a day of free family fun golf sessions on Sunday 18 September.

As well as the chance to try out the range, golf taster sessions will be running too.

Pitcheroak’s resident PGA Golf Professional Chris Stanley will be on hand on the day to guide potential new players that want to try the game.

“This course is a good starter place for golfers that are starting from the bottom,” said Chris.

“We look to keep engaging with new players.

“There’s no dress code, it’s very relaxed so that we do not deter people,” he added.

Chris also spoke about how Pitcheroak are always extending their reach beyond the course itself.

“We do a lot of work with community groups and schools.

“Before, we could only go to them but now we have the driving range, we can invite them to come to us,” he said.

The open day lasts from 10am to 4pm.
