THE staff and volunteers from Redditch’s Carers Careline are marking National Carers Week from June 11-17.
“Caring is something that creeps up on you,” said chief officer Fiona Mitchell.
“It’s not something we think of until it happens. You’re going along in your life and suddenly a family member, a friend or a neighbour becomes incapacitated in some way and you step in to help.
“That help may be needed for a long time and may become more onerous as time passes. Very often you have no idea what the future holds.
“Our focus is to care for the carer,” said Fiona.
There are more than 9,000 people in Redditch caring for family members, friends or neighbours and the number is set to rise as the population ages.
“We try to reach as many of these carers as possible but it’s really difficult so if you know someone who’s caring but has never heard about us, please pass on our number to them,” said Fiona.
“You could be offering them a real lifeline.”
