Dumped Brexit Party candidate for Redditch says 'it's not about me'

THE dumped Brexit Party candidate for Redditch has said he doesn’t mind stepping down ‘if it means getting Brexit over the line’.

Jordan Lake was one of more than 300 Brexit Party Parliamentary candidates who were controversially stood down by leader Nigel Farage this week.

The party will instead target Labour-held seats to secure a Parliamentary majority and deliver Brexit.

“I found out in the same way that everyone else did, by seeing Nigel Farage’s announcement on TV,” said Mr Lake.

“I have a lot of mixed feelings but ultimately, from a strategy point of view, I understand why he did it.

“The Brexit party was fighting on two fronts, first to stop the ‘remain alliance’ and also to fight the deal which the Conservatives put on the table.

“If stepping down is the best way to achieve stopping the remain alliance then so be it.”

Mr Lake said Brexit Party candidates were informed that this could happen during a conference in August, leaving him unsurprised as this was ‘always the arrangement’.

“The only problem is it leaves a lot of Brexit supporters without a voice and makes them feel politically homeless.

“But at the end of the day it’s not about me, or them, it’s about getting Brexit done.

“I’ve never been one to seek political gain I just want to do what’s right.”

Mr Lake confirmed he will now be voting for the The Conservative Party in the upcoming General Election on December 12.

But despite his voting intention, he has urged people who want to see Brexit ‘done properly’ not to settle for the deal put forward by the Tories should they win a majority.
