Redditch e-scooter zone expands to the Alex following 'early success'

THE e-scooter trial zone in Redditch has expanded further afield to the Alexandra Hospital.

Bird, the e-scooter operator in the town, said it is also offering free rides to NHS staff.

And is planning to host a number of safety events and helmet giveaways once lockdown ends.

Borough Council leader Matt Dormer said is delighted with how the trial is going so far.

“We’ve had lots of positive feedback from across the Redditch community,” he said.

“Bird has been a very collaborative partner, we’re pleased to help more people get to where they need to go without the need for a car.”

Bird launched in in the town last October. In that time riders have covered more miles than the distance between Redditch and Sydney, according to the company.

Bird manager Charlotte Bailey said: “We’ve been blown away by how popular our service has been in Redditch.

“We’ve worked closely with the council to be able to expand our operational zone and help even more residents get about without causing congestion or pollution.”

Residents need to be aged over 18 and agree to the safety procedures on the app before riding.
