Editor's comment: Dozens of new homes at the Alex spells disaster for congestion

Ross Crawford 27th Mar, 2021

I REMEMBER when the Alex was built – it’s modular design was meant for easy expansion.

Now the land for that expansion ‘is surplus to requirements’ and instead there’re plans to put 92 homes there.

I’m not against new homes, but considering the government wants 50 per cent of all journeys in towns and cities to be walked or cycled by 2030, these homes will add to congestion and exacerbate hospital parking problems.

Where’s the strategy to meet the government target?

All this development will do is increase reliance on cars, when we should be doing the opposite.
