WITH so much bad news in the world today, the Redditch Local History Museum has joined with Tesco to offer 50 youngsters an Easter treat as part of its recently announced community outreach programme.
On Good Friday, April 15, volunteers at the museum, on Market Place, we be giving a free chocolate egg to each child accompanied by a paying adult completing their ‘Open Little Doors’ feature.
This will give visitors an opportunity to immerse themselves in the lasting memories of the town and marvel at its rich heritage.
With an entrance fee of just £2 per adult and the experience of indulging in the town’s past glory, what better way to while away an hour or so.
Trustee Pete Harris said: “There’s so much to see. Visit our models of the Redditch of yesteryear.
“See the 1940’s bombed out house and how we lived in the days of our grandparents.
“Fill in a simple questionaire as you open the ‘Doors of Facts and Questions’ to take a trip around your town’s historical ‘Look at Life.’
“Wander up the old Evesham Street, the centrepiece shopping hub of the vibrant town, now a distant memory of over 50 years ago.
“See local legend Ada Herbert on her horse and coach with the Carnival Prince and Princess aboard, and much much more to see.”
Opened last November more than 400 visitors have already discovered the delights and relived memories at the museum and the visitor book is crammed with glowing compliments.
“Take this opportunity to join them in helping preserve our history – and pick up an Easter egg too!” said Pete.
Redditch Local History Museum is a registered charity run entirely by volunteers.
New recruits are welcome to join them for a few hours according to your availability.
“We are firmly committed to saving the past for the future,” said Pete.
“We look forward to seeing you all on the day.”
The museum is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.
