MARKING 100 years of Lions this week, more than 80 Redditch pensioners turned out for a special tea party.
The group were the guests of Redditch Lions Club, who held a tea party on Wednesday at the White Hart Inn, Headless Cross, in celebration of 100 years of community service by Lions Clubs world wide.
Other guests included the Mayor of Redditch, Jenny Wheeler and Rachel Maclean MP who shared an afternoon tea and joined in a singalong with Richard Churchley and his accordion.
Brian Rich from the Lions said: “100 years ago, a Chicago businessman called Melvin Jones thought his luncheon club members should put their talents to use serving the local community, and formed the first Lions Club in July 1917.
“Since then, his simple community service idea has become more than 46,000 Lions Clubs worldwide.
“Redditch Lions Club is one of those and we are proud to be members of such a large not-for-profit service organisation.
“To celebrate we wanted to invite pensioners from the local community to join us for a traditional English tea party, marking the event together.”
