'Essential maintenance' closure as Everyone Active takes over Greig Hall

THE Greig Hall site in Alcester is set to come under Stratford District Council this Friday, January 31.

The future of the site was decided after a three-day hearing at the High Court in Birmingham in December last year, following a long-running legal dispute with the Greig Trustees.

This latest development offers a new chapter for the Greig, which will now be managed by Everyone Active, which runs the district’s other leisure centres in Stratford, Shipston, Southam and Studley.

However the lifestyles building will be closed for February for what is described as essential health and safety work following an initial audit of the site.

Improvement are also planned over the same period.

During the closure, members can use the other leisure facilities run by Everyone Active in Studley, Stratford, Shipston and Southam.

The company aims to contact all customers directly over the coming days to provide service continuity for those who wish to take advantage of this opportunity.

District Leader Councillor Tony Jefferson (Con, Welcombe) said: “It is unfortunate that we are having to close the site, but our priorities are public safety and using the closure to improve the leisure facilities on site. Closing the site for a short time kills two birds with one stone.”

The centre will close at 4pm on Friday, January 31 and reopen on Monday, March 2, 2020.
