A SONG of longing under lockdown is the first single to be released by top Alcester singer / songwriter Euan Blackman.
And in ‘24 Hours 7 Days’ Euan, a student at Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, has crafted a song which speaks of our age and demands to be listened to.
After a soulful intro the beat kicks in and a nicely weighted piano line with guitar carries the music along.
It is, said Euan, a tale of our times.
“It comes from a feeling of isolation, of going through Covid and lockdown, of people you miss and memories,” said the 19-year-old.
And when the beat kicks in? “It’s bringing in positivity, it’s a comfort as people come out of lockdown.”
He says that studying at LIPA – which was founded by Sir Paul McCartney and Mark Featherstone-Witty – has really pushed him.
“There is so much great music out there and I’m trying to make mine the best possible I can – it’s heartfelt and honest and it’s all done by me, it’s music from me.”
The single, which is definitely catching, will be released on Friday, July 30 and will be available on all good streaming services.
An EP is also in the works with no release date yet and Euan is also toying with the idea of physically releasing something – perhaps on cassette.
“They sound really great and they’re growing back in popularity too – but we’ll see,” he said.
In the meantime he’s spending summer playing in his brother Jack’s band ‘The Beautiful Wreck’ with gigs lined up at Lakefest at Eastnor in Herefordshire on August 13 and the Moseley Folk Festival in September.
