HISTORY was made by the 11th Redditch Rowan Beaver Scouts when they recruited their newest member in a virtual ceremony.

Six year old Euan joining the ranks marked another milestone in the virtual activities of local Beaver Scouts who’ve been able to stay in touch thanks to the wonders of the worldwide web.

Beaver Scout Leader Lesley Spenser said “11th Redditch Rowan Beaver Scouts have really enjoyed seeing their friends and taking part in games and activities when we meet for weekly online meetings.

“They have also been busy working on a variety of badges at home including their Builders badge and Gardening badge.”

It’s not just the children who are having fun. Louise Wainwright, mum to Dexter, said: “We have loved doing Beaver Scout activities at home.

“The whole family has been able to get involved camping in the garden, going on family bike rides, gardening and cooking together.”

In Birchensale, the leaders set challenges for their Beaver Scouts to make a zip wire for their toys, build a castle for St George, and complete a scavenger hunt.

Emma Hay, mum to Tobias said: “It’s giving the children distraction and some great positivity.”

Coronavirus hasn’t stopped Beaver Scouts from earning badges and awards.

Ruby and Miles from 1st Birchensale completed their Chief Scout’s Bronze Award.
