REDDITCH MP Chris Bloore has congratulated incoming Prime Minister Andy Burnham following a meeting in Westminster, offering his best wishes for the challenges ahead and setting out the issues that matter most to people in Redditch, the surrounding villages and across the country.
Mr Bloore praised the government, saying the progress they have made since the election has impacted positively on peoples lives.
“That progress matters and shows what can be achieved when government focuses on practical action.”
But he has warned change needs to happen faster, saying the public will judge the new Prime Minster on his ability to turn progress into further improvements that people can feel in their homes, workplaces and communities.
“For families in Redditch and our villages, the cost of living remains a concern. My first test for the new Prime Minister is further action to support households and businesses, with energy bills continuing to be a particular priority.
“Over the past two years, businesses have dug deep, contributing through higher taxes and increased costs to help fund greater investment in our NHS.
“Businesses across Redditch have played their part in supporting our health service and local communities.
“They have shown commitment and resilience, and it is now time for government to support them by changing business rates so they have the confidence to invest and grow again.”
He has also called on Mr Burnham to secure borders and properly fund the police service.
“These are the challenges I have put to the new Prime Minister. I do so because I want this government to succeed and because when government delivers, communities such as Redditch and our villages benefit.
“The foundations have been laid. The task now is to build on that work and deliver faster for the people who need to see change.
“Now is the time to get on with the job.”
