THE Rotary Club of Redditch has a new president for the coming year – consultant ophthalmic surgeon Bichitra Das.
Bichitra, a keen golfer, who originally qualified in India, came to the UK in 1981, joining the team at the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch in 1993 before moving to Birmingham Eye Hospital in 2010.
Now semi-retired, Bichitra works two days a week in the NHS and has a small private practice in Bromsgrove.
Married to Dr Ira Das, a clinical microbiologist and infection control doctor in the NHS, the couple have a son who is a consultant musculoskeletal radiologist.
In recent years the Rotary Club of Redditch has supported local charities including Batchley Support Group, Carers Careline, Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra, Midland Air Ambulance, Marie Curie, Worcestershire Acute NHS Hospitals Charity, Severn Freewheelers and the Trussell Trust together with international charities Shelterbox and Aquabox.
