Faiths unite to celebrate Mitzvah Day at the Alexandra Hospital

LAST Sunday a fantastic multi-faith team came together for Mitzvah Day to serve free cakes and drinks to patients, visitors and staff at the Alexandra Hospital.

Cakes were donated by people of all the faith communities who took part in a day organised by the Worcestershire Interfaith Forum.

Mitzvah Day is a Jewish-led day of social action bringing people together worldwide of all faiths and none, to give their time, not their money, to make a difference to the community.

This year volunteers at the Alex welcomed Deputy Mayor, Councillor Roger Bennett and his consort as well as Couns Jenny Wheeler, Bill Hartnett and Joe Baker.

Yvonne Stollard, chair of Worcestershire Interfaith Forum, said: “This was a wonderful occasion demonstrating that people of different faiths can, and do, work together with mutual respect and friendship.”

Coun Hartnett added: “It was a great afternoon of meeting, chatting and serving the refreshments and seeing all the smiles.”
