Family and friends of Marcus Meade to hold peaceful protest in Birmingham

THE family and friends of Marcus Meade, who was shot by West Mercia police on Christmas Eve, will be holding a peaceful protest outside Waterstones in Birmingham between 1pm and 3pm on Saturday (July 5).

The protest is calling for the immediate suspension of the officer involved in the fatal shooting and demands greater accountability by West Mercia Police.

The demonstration seeks to highlight the circumstances surrounding Mr Meade’s death and ensure transparency in the ongoing investigation into the actions of the officer responsible.

Following a widely supported rally in Redditch, where hundreds stood in solidarity, the family is now calling on the communities of Birmingham – where Marcus was originally from and where his parents still live – to stand with them in demanding accountability and transparency from the force.

Marcus’ father, Anthony Meade said: “Marcus needed help, not death. We are not going away.

“Our son was taken from us under circumstances that require full accountability.”

Campaign chair Bishop Dr Desmond Jaddoo MBE added: “This is a long and painful road that families must travel in order to get, at times, limited answers — and in many cases, accountability is entirely absent.

“Families like the Meades become victims themselves. This cannot be allowed to continue.”

The family is urging Birmingham residents, community organisations, faith leaders and all supporters of justice and police accountability to attend the rally and sign a public petition demanding immediate action.
