THE family and friends of Marcus Meade, who was shot by West Mercia police on Christmas Eve, will be holding a peaceful protest outside the Kingfisher Centre tomorrow (Saturday, June 7).
The protest is calling for the immediate suspension of the officer involved in the fatal shooting and demands greater accountability by West Mercia Police.
The demonstration seeks to highlight the circumstances surrounding Mr Meade’s death and ensure transparency in the ongoing investigation into the actions of the officer responsible.
Mr Meade’s mother, Deborah Clarke, said although she welcomed the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigation, she was deeply concerned about how long it could take, especially given its limited resources.
“Other families are still waiting five, ten years on. I can’t sit through that, we need answers now. My son deserves that.”
Deborah is also making an urgent appeal for witnesses to come forward.
“If you saw anything, heard anything, have footage or information please speak up.
“Contact the Justice for Marcus Meade Campaign.
“You could be the key to the truth.”
The protest will run from 1pm until 3pm outside the Kingfisher Shopping Centre.
West Mercia Police said: “We are aware of a planned protest due to take place in Redditch town centre on Saturday, June 7.
“The public have a right to peaceful protest and we are working with the event organisers to ensure a safe gathering for those attending and the local community.
“We continue to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Marcus Meade, our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this tragic incident.
“The Independent Office for Police Conduct continues to carry out an independent investigation and it would not be appropriate for us to comment further at this time – however, we will do so when we are able.”
