THE family and friends of Marcus Meade, who was shot by West Mercia police on Christmas Eve will be holding a peaceful protest outside Redditch Police and Fire Hub.
The protest is calling for the immediate suspension of the officer involved in the fatal shooting and demands greater accountability by West Mercia Police.
The campaign also calls upon the Chief Constable to suspend the officer who fired the fatal shot or resign.
The demonstration seeks to highlight the circumstances surrounding Mr Meade’s death and ensure transparency in the ongoing investigation into the actions of the officer responsible.
Bishop Dr. Desmond Jaddoo MBE, chair and spokesperson for the Justice4Marcus Meade Campaign said: “Marcus Meade was a father, a son, and a beloved member of our community,”
“We are demanding justice not only for his children, who are now left without their father, but also for his mother and father, whose lives have been forever shattered by this loss.
“It is time for accountability. We call on the Chief Constable to either suspend the officer involved or step down from their position if they fail to do so.”
Mr Meade’s family, including his mother and father, will be present at the protest, along with other community members, and will speak out about the need for justice and the ongoing impact his death.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: “We are aware of a planned protest due to take place outside Redditch Police Station today (Friday 11 April).
“The public have a right to peaceful protest, and we are working with the event organisers to ensure a safe gathering for those attending and the local community.
“We continue to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Marcus Meade, our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this tragic incident.
“The Independent Office for Police Conduct continues to carry out an independent investigation and it would not be appropriate for us to comment further at this time; however, we will do so when we are able.”
The Justice 4 Marcus Meade Campaign invites all members of the community, local organisations, and supporters to join in the peaceful demonstration.
The protest will take place from 5.30pm until 7.30pm on April 11 outside Redditch Police and Fire Hub on Birmingham Road.
