A FAMILY’s dream came true after they returned to their original home for the first time in 82 years thanks to a meeting set up by estate agents, Andrew Grant.

Siblings Mick, 85, and Barbara Blundall, 87, lived above what was ‘The Old Royal Oak’ pub – and returned to see the original building on July 12.

It was owned by their parents Sidney and Edna Blundall during the 1930s.

Mick, who was born in one of the upstairs rooms, said: “It’s incredible to be back to the actual building where I was born.”

The building is now up for sale through Andrew Grant which hopes to attract a buyer within the next month.

Joining them on the day was estate agent Shelly Wooton, Mick’s daughter Mandy Lewis and Andrea Price who is second cousin to Mick and Barbara.

Andrea, who is the Head Coach and Manager of Bromsgrove Gymnastics Club, said: “After seeing a few posts about the house on ‘Redditch Past and Present’ Facebook page, myself and Mandy met up to swap photos and discuss family history and stories.”

Whilst they are both close with Mick, the two women had never met before.

“Since getting together we have set up two reunions and have even restored a family grave which is over 100 years old.”

The pair have discovered that the Blundall family has at least 278 years of history in the area.

On the day Barbara, who is older than Mick, walked around the house discussing memories in each room.

She said: “I absolutely love being back here because I can remember it all so well.

“It’s a wondeful that we have managed to set up a day like this,” she added.

Shelly Wooton, Andrew Grant sales and lettings negotiator, added: “It was our pleasure to help arrange this day.

“I love Redditch and we try our best to recognise historical landmarks.”
