AN appeal for help has been made to residents in the Studley and Redditch area by a son trying to trace his family tree.
Arnold Chadney, from Hall Green in Birmingham, said his son Steve was looking for any information on the sons of an Emily Louise Walkinshaw.
Emily Louise was known to Arnold as his ‘Aunt Sis’ and she’s mentioned in the 1911 census, aged 18 years old.
It’s known she had two sons, Eric and Clifford, and Arnold believes they took over the old cinema in Studley, which was in Bell Lane, when it closed down.
He believes they built boats there, but he doesn’t know Emily Louise’s married name, and as a result doesn’t know Eric and Clifford’s surname.
“My youngest son Steve is doing a family tree and we have most of the ancestors,” explained Arnold.
“However, he can’t find any record of my Aunt Sis after 1911 but I know her sons, Eric and Clifford, who were my cousins, ran a boat building business in the old cinema,” said Arnold, himself in his 80s now.
“I know Eric lived in Studley with his wife Joan but after that the trail goes cold.
“So we are appealing for anyone with information on Emily Louise Walkinshaw, Eric and Clifford, or on the boat building business to please get in touch.”
Emily Louise was the eldest of six children – Stan, Clarence, Dorothy, Bert and Queenie, Arnold’s mum.
She was born in Evelyn Road, Sparkhill, Birmingham, before the family moved to Ivor Road, also in Sparkhill.
