AFTER only five months of fun, Redditch’s first ever comedy club ‘Fat Theo’s’ is set to close for the final time.
But owner Anthony Theophanous, also known as MC Fat Theo, is determined to have the last laugh as he puts on his final show in front of a sell-out crowd tonight (Friday).
His farewell line-up for the Matchborough club includes internet sensation NOHUN alongside ‘Midlands best newcomer’ Lovell Smith, and Paralympian silver medalist turned comedian Ricky Balshaw.
Lifelong comedy lover Anthony said he was extremely proud to give Redditch and Worcestershire its own comedy club, adding his personal highlights included sell-out nights and acts from Live at the Apollo.
But aside from a few events, Anthony admitted the ticket sales had been very poor which meant he had been losing around £500-a-week making sure all the acts were paid.
Anthony said: “I may have jumped in too soon with the venue, its location was just too far for people.
“I’m going to take a step back and get back on top of things financially.
“The past six months have taken their toll, I have some outstanding invoices I need to settle but once I’m out of the red, I’ll go again.”
He added he would return in a better, more accessible location such as a town centre and said important lessons had been learnt.
“It’s important we get a good send-off as it’s not the end, it’s just the start of the next chapter, and we want the audience to remember how great a show we put on.”
