Father's appeal after son left for dead in hit and run incident

Redditch Editorial 21st Feb, 2018   0

THE father of a Redditch worker left fighting for his life in a hit and run incident is appealing for help to find the car – and the driver – that did it.

Motorcyclist Tim West suffered extensive and life threatening injuries in the crash which was caused when the car, a BMW on false number plates, pulled out from behind a lorry and ran straight into him.

The incident happened on the A441 Redditch Road in Kings Norton as the 41-year-old father of two was returning home.

Tim, who works at Open Range in Redditch, was so badly hurt he was taken immediately to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he spent many weeks in critical care before being moved to a trauma ward where he remains today.

And although the hit and run occurred more than six weeks ago, on January 9, West Midlands Police are still appealing for help in tracing the car.

The vehicle was a BMW estate and had roof bars with ladders on top.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes said: “We know the vehicle started its journey in Luton at around 9.45am and at this time it had a missing front grill. When the vehicle reached the Kettering area around midday it had acquired a set of roof bars and by the time it reached Birmingham around late afternoon it had a replacement front grill and large set of roof ladders.

“Whilst the car was displaying the registration HG53 HFJ we know it was on false plates. The car is a BMW Estate and dark in colour; and the roof bars and ladders it was carrying are very distinctive.

“I would ask people to see if they recognise the vehicle. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw the car either before or after the collision, to contact us immediately.

Tim’s father. Martin of Plymouth Road said: “Our son Tim has had a difficult journey since his horrible motorbike accident. He is healing and we want to thank the district nurse and her assistant who were first on the scene and all the emergency services who helped stabilise Tim and got him to the QE.

“We would be grateful for any help the public can give which will lead to the apprehension of the heartless driver who left Tim for dead in the road.”

People with any information on the vehicle should ring 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. side of the story.”
