PUPILS from Feckenham CE Primary School headed for a day of learning at ‘big school’.
Alternative venues needed to be found when flooding and closure of the nearby Swansbrook Lane meant the school was unable to open.
The majority of the year two and upwards pupils went on the trip to Ridgeway Secondary School (RSS) and, despite some initial nerves, the feedback was extremely positive.
They also, on their return, put on a performance for parents when they came to pick them up.
Matt Ball, headteacher at RSS, said: “It has been a delight to host the pupils from Feckenham – they seem to have had a great time and quite a few have asked if they can stay as it has been such a fun day.”
And, while those years were at Ridgeway, youngsters from reception and year one went off to Feckenham Village Hall for the day, where they also had lots of fun learning in a different environment.
They had the added bonus of delivering an impromptu concert to some elderly residents of the village, singing a number of carols to their delighted audience.
Jeannette Little, Feckenham CE Primary School headteacher, said, “We were determined to support pupils and their families and not lose another day to closure of the school.
“Pupils have really enjoyed seeing what it’s like in a small secondary school and, as well as having classrooms to learn in today, they have experienced so much more.
“We would like to say thank you to both Ridgeway Secondary School and Feckenham Village Hall for their help.”
Mrs Little added: “We have asked the council to support us in identifying and actioning ways to keep Swansbrook Lane open after heavy rain, they have responded positively and offered support to hopefully reduce the risk of the school having to close in the future.”
