THE FECKENHAM Wake provided annual outdoor fun for all on The Square and Recreation Ground, writes Lola Griffin.
A truly memorable celebration, this year’s event was on June 21 and offered a wide array of entertainment and activities for around 1,500 people who attended the popular event.
There were an array of opportunities on the day, including a Trial of Strength for those with a competitive streak, along with life-sized table football arena and a sumo-wrestling showdown.
Car and train enthusiasts were able to indulge in the Classic Car Show which showed off 130 timeless automobiles, along with the display of five spectacular steam engines and the mayor and her deputy gave out some prizes to the most impressive of these displays.
Entertainment took centre stage with comedy from Prof Chandler’s Punch and Judy, tunes from the Arrow Valley Brass Band, harmonies from All Round Voices Choir and the Massed Morris Dancers.
For refreshments, a splendid pig roast was on offer to all, along with artisan pizzas, home made samosas, street food and bars selling real ale and prosecco.
Julian Bull, the Chair of the Feckenham Wake Committee, said: “It was incredibly successful.
“The weather was challenging, it was hot and sticky.”
Despite the weather conditions and the unfortunate cancellation of the Fun Dog Show, Julian added those who attended still had an amazing time at the event.
