Festive fayre and pop-up Santa's grotto puts Church Hill in the seasonal spirit

IT WAS beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Church Hill when the annual festive fayre was held at Willow Trees Community Centre.

The fete was organised by Church Hill Big Local and featured 26 stalls packed full of Christmas gifts including cakes, cards and chocolates.

More than 1,500 people braved the cold weather to join in the festive fun, and they were greeted by a fire breather to provide some fun and much-needed warmth.

Other activities included a tombola, a Punch and Judy show and lots of food including burgers.

Musical entertainment included several stunning performances from local choirs, singers and saxophone players.

Hundreds of excited youngsters got to see Father Christmas at the fayre, as well as at a pop-up event on Tuesday evening when around 450 selection boxes handed out to children as presents.

Church Hill Big Local’s Christmas Fayre has been taking place for the past decade, with this year’s event matching 2021’s record turnout.

Church Hill Big Local co-chair Stephen Betteridge said: “This fayre is always one of the highlights of Church Hill Big Locals year and the feedback was fantastic with children loving seeing Father Christmas in particular.

“At Church Hill Big Local we are always trying to give people affordable events that people can enjoy while being as affordable as possible, and I think with the rising cost-of-living people appreciate fayres like this even more.

“The fayre has grown really nicely and it’s a marvellous way to celebrate Christmas.”
