A PETITION to save a popular Redditch pub has attracted signatures from hundreds of people from all over the world in the space of just 24 hours.

The Queen’s Head, on Queen Street, is set to close this week, however, a petition set up by Lynda Codling has attracted attention from people from as far away as Germany, Holland and Poland and she hopes to gather enough signatures to take her plea for extended lease to the Redditch Borough Council.

Lynda said: “A vast amount of time, effort, money and craftsmanship has been ploughed into this venture over the last three years, – the work has been ongoing and has yet to be completed.

“Redditch badly needs a cultural music venue and the support for the events so far has been outstanding.

“In these austere times, it is a struggle for every business to succeed but we want to acknowledge this and allow the management to prove this venture, given sufficient time, will be a valuable asset to this town for many years to come.”

The pub and licensed live music venue has in the last two years become a real hub for drum and bass and electronic music fans from all over the world, and those who are campaigning to save it believe it to be a real community asset.

Stars to have played theer include Jazzy Jeff and Mix Master Mike.

Rochelle Crawford, who signed the online petition, wrote: “The impact and opportunities that have been brought to Redditch through The Queen’s Head the past few years have been phenomenal and this hard work must not go to waste.

“The Queen’s Head has hosted many musical artists from across the globe and has put Redditch on the map for positive reasons.

“There is always been a safe, friendly atmosphere and there is a sure feeling of unity.

“It is is so very important to both musicians and the culture of Redditch.”
