Figures soar for Worcester's Peregrine Falcons livestream

WORCESTER’S Peregrine Falcons have been attracting visitors to the Faithful City from far and wide as viewers continue to flock to YouTube to watch more eggs be laid.

The fourth egg arrived last Friday morning with people coming to the Cathedral’s YouTube page in their droves to watch a 24-hour live stream of the falcons.

The adult birds, named Peter and Peggy by Cathedral followers, have been visiting the nest box for a few weeks now and making a hollow in the gravel for nesting.

A video of Peter meeting his ‘entire family’ for the first time was published on Facebook and received over 3,400 views.

Engrossed viewers have also watched Peter and Peggy keeping the eggs warm and dry during the wet and windy Worcester weather.

Last weekend saw ‘Peregrine tourists’ from Norwich, Scarborough, Cromer and Salisbury visiting the city to catch a glimpse of the Falcons.

The Cathedral’s team of peregrine experts hope the chicks will hatch in late April or early May.

For the first time in over a decade, a mated pair of Peregrines moved into the Cathedral in 2022 and successfully nested, produced and fledged four chicks.

The same pair returned to the nest box last year, with the live stream of their Easter activities receiving nearly 400,000 views from across the globe.

This year’s action is being live-streamed on a screen inside the Cathedral.

Cathedral bosses will also host a series of drop-in sessions with a team of experts, cameras and scopes to allow people to see the birds up close later in the season.

Peregrines have been in and around Worcester for hundreds of years and are depicted in the Cathedral’s great West Window and parts of the stonework.
