NEIGHBOURS ran to help when a heat gun set a hedge ablaze in a Redditch close yesterday, Wednesday, July 29.
The incident happened just before 4pm in Impney Close, Church Hill when a resident, using a heat gun to kill weeds, accidentally set a nearby hedge and fence alight.
The fire quickly took hold and was in danger of reaching parked cars as neighbours ran to help.
They used garden hoses to fight the fire and the fire brigade quickly arrived on the scene to extinguish the blaze before it could spread any further.
One resident said: “I was just going out when I saw it. I said ‘those cars have got to be moved or they’ll be caught’.
“Lots of people came to help or else it could have been much worse. As it was it destroyed the hedge and fence.”
