THREE HOUSES and a garden shed with animals nearby were burnt by a fire which broke out in Redditch this afternoon.

Farndon Close residents watched on as three fire engines and twelve firefighters tackled a blaze which started at one of the road’s properties.

The cause of the fire is unknown but is believed to have started in one of the gardens at around 12.10pm.

It subsequently burnt the back of properties 12, 13 and 14.

Resident Lucy Ridgewell, who lives at 12 Farndon Close said: “My shed, where I keep my childrens’ toys has been destroyed.

“The rabbits are nearby and and I’m not sure if they are okay because the firefighters are still assessing the damage.”

Lucy, who received a call asking her to come home after the fire broke out, also returned to find her brother’s car, which was parked on her drive, moved out the way.

“The firefighters had to break into his car to move it away from the fire,” said Lucy.

Watch Commander Keith Peters, who works for Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, said: “There were no injures.

“We are working as quickly as possible to ensure the residents can return to their homes safely.”
