Fire Service appeal for more community volunteers from Redditch

Correspondent 28th Nov, 2016 Updated: 28th Nov, 2016   0

THE Fire Service is looking for more people to become community volunteers in Redditch.

They want people who are aged 18 or over and are looking for a new challenge and way to give back in the future.

People can register their interest all year round, but if they would like to become a service volunteer now they need to register their application before Friday, December 9, 2016.

A Hereford and Worcester Fire Services spokesperson said: ” Becoming a HWFRS volunteer enables you to make a difference in the local community; challenge yourself and gain experience; learn lifesaving skills for the future.

“The service annually recognises service volunteers with special awards such as the High Sheriff’s award for the outstanding service volunteer award that was presented to Edward Cheshire for his outstanding dedication and support.

“Further to this award, multiple volunteers were awarded the Chairman’s Certificate of Commendation for their continued support of the Dying 2 Drive initiative that has engaged more than 1,500 young people in Herefordshire this year alone.

“Community volunteers get full training and can really make a difference to various people’s lives whilst gaining experience and participating in various activities such as promoting safety awareness at local public events, accompanying crew members to carry out home safety checks and acting as casualties during operational training exercises.”

Becky Valender, senior community risk technician added: “Providing safety advice is an integral part of the Fire Service’s role in the community, we attend hundreds of events throughout the year to promote fire, water and road safety.

“Volunteers get to work side by side with firefighters on training exercises, open days, home safety checks and local public events. I would urge anyone with a few hours spare each week to consider getting involved in the hugely rewarding integral work of the Fire Service Volunteers.”
