FIREFIGHTERS recently teamed up with the Environmental Agency to remove hundreds of tyres in Redditch.

Nicknamed ‘tyre mountain’, the clean up took place at Lakeside Industrial Estate to prevent a serious fire breaking out.

The tyres had built up over a long period of time, with neighbouring businesses reporting children climbing unsafely on the pile.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue commander, John Elsworth, said: “Despite the lockdown we’re delighted to have supported the Environment Agency in achieving such a successful solution.

“The tyre removal has not only reduced the risk to the community but also supported the local business world and demonstrated our reputation as a community-focused and effective service.

“I want to thank our Redditch fire crews for their professionalism in this successful outcome.”
