REDDITCH Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club (RAFVBC) held its inaugural summer ball – a glittering black tie event for nearly 120 serving and veteran members and their families and friends.
The Deputy Mayor of Redditch, Coun Joanne Kane, and her consort attended the gala, which featured a red carpet and fizz reception and a three-course meal.
Birmingham band Maverick provided the music for dancing but not before the after-dinner speech, loyal toast and other toasts, by special guest Peter McGowran MVO, who retired last year as the Chief Yeoman Warder at the Tower of London.
These were followed by a two-minute silence in remembrance of absent friends and organisers said a fantastic evening was had by all.
The Abbey Hotel donated a raffle prize, a night’s stay at the hotel with all the trimmings, raising £700 – and five euros – for the club.
Simply Doors and Windows donated £100.
RAFVBC, started by veterans Nick Walker and James Shotbolt, is one of hundreds of breakfast clubs around the country, providing veterans and serving members with camaraderie and support, as well as regular functions and events, such as the Redditch D-Day celebration in June.
The club meets on the second Saturday of the month at Redditch Cricket, Hockey and Rugby Club.
