THE Union Jack has been lowered to half mast over Redditch town hall following the death of respected former borough councillor and mayor Jack Cookson.
Mr Cookson, is believed to have been ill with pneumonia and passed away at the weekend aged 88.
Councillor Bill Hartnett, leader of the borough council said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Sandra and the children, rest in peace Jack.
“You will be missed by everyone who knew you.
“Jack was a great character and a real man of the people. He led a full life and was involved with many local projects including Redditch credit union.
“He represented Batchley on the council and I served with him on many committees.”
Mr Cookson was elected to the council in 1998 and served until 2011. He was mayor in 2004.
