Flappin' good fun as St David's House does Christmas 1920s style

FORGET Santa, the Great Gatsby era came to town earlier this month in the form of a stylish Christmas party for a group of sheltered accommodation tenants.

Residents from St David’s House and Queen’s Cottages showed off style aplenty on Tuesday, December 11 with a 1920s fancy dress party.

The residents, care team and volunteers were ‘invited’ to Glam Up in 1920s style for the fancy affair.

Everyone got into the spirit of the occasion including Alan, a member of the care team, who donned a red flapper dress to put smiles on everyone’s faces.

The glitz and glamour was more than just fancy dress, with the lounge and dining areas each sporting a Christmas tree dressed to perfection, Art Deco posters, illuminated boxes, animals and more Twenties paraphernalia linking the two areas.

Residents had a huge Great Gatsby backdrop to be photographed against with the added option to turn photos into Christmas cards.

To complete the theme were dining tables fit to grace any restaurant with white table linen, chair ties, table runners, art deco placemats, glam plates, crackers, and centre pieces.

Residents enjoyed a varied party buffet, a festive glass or two, after dinner chocolates and hot drinks all while listening to local performers Colette, singing period songs and Joe who accompanied her on piano.

The duo had agreed to perform for 80 minutes but had so much fun they stayed close to two hours…

St David’s activity co-ordinator Gill Talbot said: “We don’t do things by halves here at St David’s and as usual we could never have achieved such a great party if it were not for so many generous Redditch residents and companies, who supplied or donated to us.

“I could not have set up the Christmas decorations and theming without some of the residents pitching in to help too.

“On top of that, the time donated from each of the volunteers and staff that came in to help make the party happen just made it so much more special. This was a great team effort and fun was had by all.”
