THERE will be flippin’ great fun tomorrow, February 25 when the annual Court Leet pancake races take place on Alcester High Street.
The Shrove Tuesday tradition – started in Olney in Oxfordshire in the 14th century by a lady parishioner late for mass – will see a good pancake mixture of schoolchildren, pub relays and everyone who fancies a go taking part in the event.
The fun starts at 12 midday and runs until 2pm and there will be prizes galore to give out.
First under starters orders will be the Pub Relay at 12 o’clock, followed at 12.15pm by the Works Relay, 12.30pm Nurseries and Schools, 1pm, the Women’s Race followed by the Men’s Race.
From 1.15pm races for anyone else who wants to take part – although prizes for these competitors are not guaranteed.
These can include toddler groups, parents, grandparents, vicars, corporate bonding sessions, sports and fitness groups, and fancy dress.
Marc Venables from the Court Leet said: “Timings are approximate, please show up ten minutes prior to racing at the church gates for briefing and instructions
