FLIPPIN’ great fun was had at Ipsley CE RSA Academy on Pancake Day last week.

Children’s charity The Oakland Foundation donated pancakes and homemade batter mixes for pupils at the Winyates Way school to enjoy.

Oakland trustee Luke Attwell said: “We wanted to make sure everyone was able to take part in this annual celebration and learn about the origins of Shrove Tuesday.”

Shrove Tuesday is the traditional day of feasting before Ash Wednesday and the 40 days of Lent leading up to Easter.

The day enables Christians and those observing the Lent practice to use up their surplus eggs and fats before embarking upon the traditional Lenten fast, with pancakes offering the perfect way of utilising these ingredients.

Dana Curtis, director of inclusion/safeguarding at Ipsley said: “The pancakes were extremely popular and pupils asked if they could have them every day.

“Thank you to everyone at The Oakland Foundation.”
